Solitary (lyrics)

{Verse one}

Time is a solitary thing,
It would keep on changing if there was no one left listening.
A tree that stands alone,
Leaves the forest echoing as it falls to the ground.
So when you leave me on the floor,
I can feel your goodbyes even if I don't hear a sound.

[chorus]

Oh, what makes you think you can leave me here, and take it all away?
That I'd wait for you a thousand years, until you called my name?

Oh, that I'd sympathize and empathize, with everything you say?
What makes you feel so much good inside, every time you lie?
To me. You lie to me.

{Verse two}

Returns are often best unsaid,
New branches cannot form if the tree itself is dead.
Time will not stop for you and I,
My roots are closed to you and they'll plant themselves instead.
As I drink all the others dry,
The tree cries rivers back to make itself feel alive.

[Chorus]

Oh, what makes you think you can leave me here, and take it all away?
That I'd wait for you a thousand years, until you called my name?

Oh, that I'd sympathize and empathize, with everything you say?
What makes you feel so much good inside, every time you lie?
To me.  You lie to me.

{Verse three}

You never helped me as I grew,
And so I grew in spite of you.
You made me out to be deformed,
And actuality is torn.

I had so many buds unborn,
But bloomed through ashes they are more.
I wanted you to see them too,
But then they burned because of you.

[Chorus]

Oh, what makes you think you can leave me here, and take it all away?
That I'd wait for you a thousand years, until you called my name?

Oh, that I'd sympathize and empathize, with everything you say?
What makes you feel so much good inside, every time you lie?
You lie to me, you lie to me, ye-ah.

Time is a solitary thing,
It keeps on changing though no one is listening.
